Tour of Egypt / Medina / Mecca including Sinai and Mount Tursina

17 days Umrah including a tour of Egypt with an expedition to the top of Jabel Musa, read the headline on the bulletin board of the Madrasah or Religious School where we attend regular evening religious classes. We found out that our guru will also be taking the tour.

I searched the net on Mount Turisina and found several write ups by people who have visited and climbed the mountain. It sounded interesting and challenging. We psyched ourselves and went for it. Even Ram, although apprehensive in the beginning given the condition of her eyes, was enthusiastic after I read to her these write ups. She thought of one of her former staff, who was physically challenged in his legs, climbed a mountain somewhere in India a long time ago and returned with happy descriptions of his climb. She thought if he could do it then she should be able to do it, different mountains but mountain all the same. Furthermore there is some religious significance in this climb we intend to make. We had four weeks before making the trip and prepared ourselves mentally and physically for the climb.

With about thirty seven others we went on the 17 days tour. Egypt was the first stop. Our itinerary was tight and the main activity in Egypt was the climb of Mount Turisina in Sinai, specifically Jabel Musa or Mount Musa, at the peak of which Prophet Musa or Moses received his Commandments from God the Almighty. It was at this mountain peak that Musa spent 40 days, alone in a hole, in total supplication and submission to the Almighty.

The rest of the time in Egypt was spent mostly visiting Islamic historical sites and graves of Great Muslim fighters who defended Islam, Religious leaders, Martyrs, Companions of Prophet Mohamad pbuh, and also Prophets before Mohamad, in and around Cairo, Alexanderia or Iskandariah, and the Sinai area.

Two of my former colleagues are now posted and based in Cairo. We tried to meet up but somehow our schedules could not synchronize. Hopefully there will be another time for us to meet.

We spent three nights in Egypt before proceeding to Jeddah and on to Medina for four days and then on to Mecca for the 'Umrah'.

We arrived home in the late evening of 4th October tired, hmmmm…. exhausted seems a better word!! With the will of the Almighty, I will write more with some details of each portion of the tour and their significance, where possible. Meanwhile, allow me to ponder over the various events and formulate their presentation before writing them here .....

No! This is not an Arab woman with full face coverings. This is Ram protecting her eyes from dust brought by gusts of wind. Taken in Tonta, Egypt outside of one of the mosque we visited. Does she look Arab?? Posted by Picasa

Virus ? ? ?

I found out today that some of my friends and contacts have received purported emails sent by me with questionable attachments. I can assure my friends and contacts that I do not send such emails. Obviously my address book(s) have been broken into. I have also been receiving similar emails from my friends and contacts. Looks like it is going in a vicious cycle, the work of some malicious programmes intended to disrupt orderly cyber harmony and undermine one's personality and credibility. The work of sick minded genius whose brains are perhaps misaligned from proper decency, and not utilised properly.

I am not sure how to handle this anomaly in my system and would appreciate help from those who would have had similar experience before. I have only recently had my laptop reformatted and lost data in the process and I am not about to repeat it yet unless absolutely necessary. I have done virus checks and scans and so far no virus has been detected.

In the meanwhile, while I try to figure how to put the system right, if anyone continue to receive such emails please do not open but delete them instead and check back with me on its authenticity. I welcome advice from anyone on how to put this right.

Thank you all......

On The Move

These past weeks we have been on the move. At the end of August we were in JB for a couple of days. Then Shaffik bought us air tickets to go to Bintulu. The little kids were as usual excited that we were coming. We were in Bintulu for about a week. Two days ago we went down to JB again. And on Monday we will be leaving for a trip to Egypt followed by Medina and Mecca.

Ever since we retired from active employment, Ram and I have been attending religious classes at various places and have recently concentrated our attention to attending classes conducted at a ‘Madrasah’ in a religious complex by an Imam and Guru that I am very familiar with. This complex is known as Yayasan Al Jenderami (www.aljenderami.com.my, but the website is at the moment presented in the Malay language only). The Yayasan is a self sufficient non-governmental entity that promotes the propagation and the teaching of Islam following the Sunnah Wal-Jumaah principles. There is a main mosque, classrooms, accommodations for orphans, private accommodation for single elderly ladies, and there are 52 of them, with the same number on waiting list to be accommodated as the facilities expands, (warga emas or directly translated as golden citizens) who are themselves self sufficient and who devote time for enriching their religious knowledge and practices. It is the teaching based on the principles of Sunnah Wal-Jumaah following religious books of old that attracts both Ram and I to the place.

The Yayasan also operates a number of economic activities such as catering services, a cooperative store and mini market, a bakery, animal rearing currently concentrating on sheep rearing, tour and travel agency services and others.

The Travel agency concentrates primarily on Islamic tours and the next one they have arranged is a visit to Egypt, Medina and Mecca for the ‘umrah’ during the fasting month. The main attraction in the tour of Egypt is the visit to Mount Tursina or Jebel Musa in Sinai, apart from visits to other historical sites and the graves of past Islamic leaders and companions of Prophet Muhammad pbuh. Ram and I decided to join this tour and have psyched ourselves to the climb of Jebel Musa.

I read in the internet and the write-ups of members of virtual tourists that the climb or trek onto Jebel Musa will take approximately seven hours round trip and most who have visited and climbed the mountain gave positive recommendations. Now we are really looking forward to the visit. We have been preparing ourselves by going for daily walks, exercises and even went jungle trekking when in Bintulu recently. After Egypt we will go to Medina and then to Mecca for umrah. The month of Ramadhan will start when we are in Medina. Spending Ramadhan in Medina and Mecca will be an interesting experience. We have done this several times and have had wonderful experiences then and look forward to this next visit. I submit to the Almighty for HIS grace to give Ram and I and also the others in our group the strength, commitment and good health to perform the obligatory prayers and that the visit as a whole will progress in ease for all of us.

We will be gone for approximately three weeks. More of the visit later…….
